On Thursday, May 11th, we had a 2017-2019 officers’ installation luncheon/general meeting at the Orange Tree Golf Club. This is the first time our club has installed officers’ for a two year term instead of just a one year term.
Our installing officer was our new District VII Director Sue Roberts. She gave an wonderful installation program which included giving flower corsages to all the incoming/continuing officers with colors representing their offices.
After the installation and business meeting, we had a tasty buffet. At was a wonderfully social event and included 8 caladium plants as door prizes.
On Friday, May 5th, we had a plant exchange at Windermere Recreation Center (formerly Butler Bay Rec. Center).
There were alot of plants and it was a very pleasant but windy day. Margaret S’s was called out of town at the last minute, so her daughter Jennifer P. attended and brought some plumeria tree cuttings for rooting to share. Not in the photos below but who also attended the exchange later in the morning was Community Garden Chairman Vicki H.
On Thursday, May 4th at the Dist. VII Spring Meeting, Windermere GC member Vicki Hearst was recognized as our club’s nominee for the “Inspired Gardener” for Dist. VII. The Inspired Gardener award is for garden club members who are very active in gardening but who are not officers or chairman at the state or national level.
Vicki was not selected as the district’s “Inspired Gardener” but we are still very proud of her. Her work at the butterfly garden at Windermere Elementary School and designing the new landscaping at the 1887 Windermere Historical Schoolhouse, Crazy Card Party Fundraiser Decoration Chairman, and many other club projects throughout the years has made her quite an asset. She not only was an asset for our club but to her church, friends, and family for floral arrangements she has created and landscaping advice she has given.
On Wednesday, April 19th, we first attending the dedication of Windermere Elementary School’s Learning Garden. It was co-created by two student’s mothers, Amalie Skorman and Stephanie Gisler-Rashid. Amalie Skorman is a Windermere Garden Club member.
Next, we visited the butterfly garden which was also on the school grounds. Windermere Garden Club Community Gardens Co-Chairman Vicki H. gave us a very detailed tour.
Finally, we visited the wildflower garden at the school which was where the air conditioning units for the school were located before they were moved to the roof. Windermere GC member Theresa S.-Myers gave us the tour.
Finally, we drove over to the Windermere 1887 Historic Schoolhouse. Windermere GC’s Vicki Hearst has designed the landscaping and the club has donated both time and funds for this landscaping.
